Last weekend the Washington, DC area experieced a horrific storm. It was a wind storm with up to 70 MPH gusts that caused incredible amounts of damage. There were many who were greatly affected, including one of our clients who was set to settle their home in Oakton, VA. If you are purchasing a home and financing it with a mortgage, the bank will require an appraisal of the property to determine its market value. The dollar amount the bank will lend you is based on the appraised value of the house rather than the agreed upon purchase price between the buyer and the seller.
