Are you thinking about selling your home or helping an elderly parent sell their home, and the to-do’s to get the home ready for the market seem just too overwhelming? Has it affected your mental or physical health? If you are not sure, read on for 10 signs of stress and burnout.

  1. You begin to withdraw socially, curtailing visits and phone calls with close friends.
  2. You have given up hobbies and activities that you have enjoyed for years being too exhausted to get even daily tasks completed.
  3. You are developing stress-related issues such as back pain and headaches or chronic feelings of fatigue and depression.
  4. You have more health issues, coming down with colds, flu, and other illnesses more than usual.
  5. You have a short temper, finding yourself getting mad in the checkout line, in traffic, and at family and friends.
  6. You have outbursts or anger at a loved one living with an illness (like Alzheimer’s) because there is no cure, or because they don’t understand that the behavior is erratic or difficult.
  7. You have gained or lost weight unintentionally.
  8. You have greater anxiety, an unshakable feeling of despair or pessimism.
  9. You cry “for no reason” or over minor issues.
  10. You experience sleeplessness or chronic insomnia caused by a never-ending list of concerns.

If an impending home sale is causing any of the above symptoms, it may be time to call an experienced Realtor® who can facilitate the process for you.

Services Realtors® Provide

A Realtor® serves as a trustworthy guide and advocate throughout the home sale process. More specifically, a Realtor® will:

  • Clarify what work needs to be done: A Realtor® will help you determine a plan for preparing to get top dollar for your house. If a Realtor® offers staging with their listings, this will increase value and speed up the selling time.
  • Help you determine the best time to enter the market: A Realtor® is expected to understand the current market conditions, market timing, and tax implications (although you should always consult a professional accountant for issues pertaining to taxes).
  • Market your home to the public: Many agents simply follow the four P’s of marketing a home: pricing your house, putting it into the multiple listing system, planting a sign in the front yard, and praying that buyers come to look at it. In reality, however, there are over 100 steps in the selling process. You need to make sure that your Realtor® has a strong understanding of each of them, along with a marketing plan that will position your house to stand out.
  • Review and negotiate the purchase agreement: When a Realtor® reviews an offer for the purchase of your home, you can be sure that he or she will protect your interests and negotiate the best possible terms.
  • Oversee the contract process: The process of selling a home is complex. An equipped Realtor® will guide you through it, from preparation to contract to the settlement table, with as few headaches as possible. After ratifying the purchase offer, your agent will assist you in complying with all the elements and conditions of the contract, and get you to closing.
